WOO HOO! 18 miles done! I was worried about my training plan calling for 17 this week after how crappy my 15 miler was!
Turns out that I did great on 18 miles! Yes, I was tired. Yes, my legs hurt. But, I made it!
Lessons learned:
1. Overestimate water consumption. I needed more than one bottle per 6 mile loop.
2. Overestimate Shot Blocks...I tried to ration them. I should've taken more than I needed.
3. Have food waiting in car for post run. I was famished until I get home.
Since I finished running, I have been eating non-stop! I've had a greek yogurt, 2 small sticky buns, a salad topped with steak, corn on the cob, and a slice and 1/2 of pizza. OMG...that's a lot of food!
And now, I relax and ride out this hurricane by staying indoors, eating some more, and plenty of wine. The worst is supposed to be from 4am-8am. I really hope we don't lose power.

Hurricane Irene is messing with my training!
I HAD planned to do my long run on Sunday this week. The Hurricane apparently has other ideas for what I will be doing on Sunday. So, the long run moves to Saturday. 17 miles....wow. I will blog about it when done and let you know how it felt.
A bizarre thing happened to me on my 5.5 mile run last night. My hands and feet burned. They felt like they were on fire. The only rationale I have is that I was chopping jalapenos before going out for the run. I washed my hands thoroughly with soap. Could that really be the culprit?

15 miles...what was I thinking?
With 10 weeks to go to my Marathon, the distances are starting to become real. I ran a 15 mile training run this morning. I'm starting to have serious doubts about my ability to run 26.2.
I feel like I've been hit by a truck. There is NO WAY I could have done 11 more miles. Granted, I did this run on very little sleep and I had just raced a 5K on Wednesday...
17 miles next weekend.

Close...but no cigar!
My PR in a 5K is 28:05. That was my goal for last night. Ideally, I wanted anything with a 27 in front! I missed my goal by about 5 or 6 seconds and finished at 28:10 (or 11)...need to wait for official results. I was disappointed to say the least.
Having said that, I'm trying to keep it in perspective. My next 5K will be late fall early winter. On the course I set my PR last year. Last night it was 80 degrees. I'm much faster in the cold. Also, the race was at 7 pm last night. I prefer to run in the AM and do much better on fresh legs.
So, I guess all in all to be only 5 seconds slower in 80 degrees in the evening wasn't too shabby.

5K tomorrow night
Been MIA lately...busy last week. I had a lot going on with work and then a wedding this weekend. I did get a 14 miler in on Saturday before we left.
Tomorrow night is a 5K. I would love a PR...but I just don't know if I can do it. Evening running is not my thing. I do best first thing in the AM. Plus, I am much faster in cold weather than the heat of summer.
We'll see...it is a flat course. Cross your fingers for me!

Cleared from PT!
I had a great Physical Therapy session this morning. Each time we tried a new or challenging exercise, he would ask me about my knee pain. What knee pain? I could even do the clock game today!!
I ran 5 w/o tape this morning. I'm feeling strong! Now I hope I can just stay in this shape/conditioning until Oct. 30.

Family reunited!
The last week was both good and bad....
The good: reconnecting with hubby...dinners out, movies, good conversations, minimal messes, kids becoming less mommy/daddy reliant
The bad: missing my kids something fierce; ALR getting into a bees nest and being stung 11 times on day 1 of camp.
"Reunited and it feels so good!" I can't stop hugging them.

Wednesday already...how did that happen?
DH and I have been enjoying our kid free week so far. Sunday night was dinner with neighbors. Monday night was burgers and movies...last night was a quiet night in with yummy leftovers another neighbor dropped off (she didn't want me to have to cook). Not sure what we are doing tonight...but tomorrow is dinner our with more neighbors.
Hmmmm...what does this make me realize....time flies and we have great neighbors!
Our little sweetheart was stung 11 times at camp on Monday while picking blueberries. Her friend was stung 13 times. The camp nurse did a wonderful job. I still had multiple calls with CHOP (due to bee sting allergy being in on family) and camp...but everything has worked out OK. She and her friend rejoined their troop's activities on Tuesday.
